MALDEF is pleased to provide you with this extensive list of scholarships, including many that do not inquire about immigration status or require a valid social security number. The overview of scholarships provided includes website links that you are advised to visit for more complete details, as it is not practical to list every requirement of each scholarship. Please read through, or download, the information here and select scholarships that are applicable to you. As a general rule, if an application asks for your social security number and you do not have one yet, leave that space blank but fill out and turn in the otherwise completed application. Many scholarship awards can be processed with just the student’s name and address. If a scholarship specifically requests a SSN, ask if it is possible to submit an ITIN instead. Paid Volunteer Opportunities

Dream Service Incentive Grant Program (DSIG) 

The California Dream Act Service Incentive Grant (DSIG) Program encourages California Dream Act Applicant (CADAA) students with a Cal Grant A award that met Cal Grant B eligibility or a Cal Grant B award to perform community or volunteer service.  The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) will award up to $4,500 per academic year (up to $2,250 per semester or up to $1,500 per quarter) to 1,667 eligible students. The grant will be available to the student for up to 8 semesters or up to 12 quarters while they have an active Cal Grant A or B award. Students must also meet Satisfactory Academic Progress and complete any necessary verification for their Cal Grant award. Learn more about the program by visiting the DSIG website.

Dream SF Fellowship

The DreamSF Fellowship is a paid San Francisco-based leadership and professional development program for immigrant students and aspiring professionals who seek to gain real-world experience with social justice change-makers in the Bay Area. Fellows are paired with local immigrant-serving community organizations and gain hands-on experience in direct services, advocacy, and immigration law, and more while growing a network of mentors. Fellows receive professional mentorship and attend weekly enrichment seminars to support their growth as leaders and community advocates. For more information, visit the Dream SF Fellowship website.
